Most household, garden and renovation waste can go in a skip. Some items can't, because they're dangerous, need special handling or can't legally go to an ordinary landfill. Putting them in the bin can mean extra charges or the bin being left behind.
Items most providers won't take
- Asbestos or anything that might contain it, such as old fibro sheeting
- Chemicals, pool chemicals and pesticides
- Liquid paint, solvents and oils
- Gas bottles and fuel containers
- Car and household batteries
- Tyres
- Medical and clinical waste
Items that are often restricted
Mattresses, fridges, air conditioners, TVs and computers are accepted by some providers for an extra fee and refused by others. Ask first.
Asbestos needs special care
Asbestos is a serious health risk. In WA, removing more than 10 m² of bonded (non-friable) asbestos, or any amount of friable asbestos, must be done by a licensed asbestos removalist, and it must go to a facility that accepts it. Never break it up or hide it in a general skip.
Where the rest can go
The City of Rockingham and local recycling centres accept many household hazardous items such as paint, batteries and gas bottles. Check the City's current waste guide for drop-off options and opening hours.
